The Problem & The Solution

The United States offers a lush standard of living for its citizens. However, it comes with a price. The United States and China are historically responsible for having significantly more CO2 emissions and waste than any other country. Statistics indicate that it would take 12 planets the size of earth to sustain humanity if everyone lived within this standard of living. Several studies also speculate that an average American is likely to produce trash weighing over 600 times their body weight in their lifetime. Could those truckloads of trash be managed better to serve more?

We always have an option to conserve the resources that are available to us. When we make the daily choice to recycle the items that we discard we are making a choice to help reduce pollution, save energy, slow global warming, protect our forests and keep the mountains of trash from growing. We can seriously cut our waste in half by simply staying mindful and always making the effort to recycle. Furthermore, most of the items that we regard as waste could be utilized further.

CANS

There are millions of cans mixed in with other biodegradable waste, but why? It is so easy to simply toss your soda can into the recycling bin rather instead of the trash can – thus stopping your cans from ending in up floating around in our oceans and landfills.

Recycling your cans helps prevent accelerated depletion of iron ores and saves on energy that manufacturers would use to create cans from scratch while preventing the release of carbon gases used in soda can production and disposal burning which is huge for the protection of the ozone layer and the slowing global warming.

Recycled cans be reused to make bike/car parts, steel beams, more cans, assorted appliances, rebar, and more. Therefore cans are not really a piece of trash, they are actually a valuable material that is just waiting to be transformed into something new.

PAPER

Deforestation is the action of clearing out a wide spread area of trees and it is another contributing factor to global warming. Trees are cut down for the sake of land, paper milling and furniture production. We waste a lot of paper and it is not conducive to sustaining our environment. Trees are a renewable resource that can be re-grown; however, when we take too much we disrupt the balance of our environment and again, contribute to global warming.

Thirty percent of the world is comprised of forests and eighty five percent of the worlds animals and plants live in the forest. Most species of plants and animals cannot survive when we destroy their homes. Deforestation also disrupts balance within our water cycle that relies on trees to return water vapor into the atmosphere. When trees are not present, forest lands become barren deserts. At the current rate we are going, our worlds rainforests that have been thriving for thousands of years could completely vanish within the next 100 years. To me that means we do have the chance to make this right – but there is no time to waste.

We would avoid causing an imbalance by taking advantage of paper recycling services to save trees from the process of deforestation. When we recycle more paper products, more products can be made with the recovered material. Recycled paper can be used to make books, newspapers, paper straws, tissue paper rolls and more.

PLASTIC

As a society we have a love hate relationship with plastic. On one hand, it can used to make almost anything for very cheap and on another, it is extremely hard to responsibly dispose of which ultimately results in a large portion of our waste consisting of plastic. When plastic waste is littered it contributes to the trash in our oceans, kills wildlife, clogs drainage systems and makes the world an uglier place. It does not break down or rust away like waste metal does – it simply continues to be a nuisance to our environment.  Even worse, many countries dispose of plastic waste by burning it, not only does that practice corrode the ozone layer, it also wastes energy and reusable resources.

What you may not know about plastic is that it is highly reusable material and recycling it can make a big difference for the planet. The plastic products we need can be made by using the EXSISTING disregarded plastic. Like newly manufactured plastic, recycled plastic can be used to make almost anything.

At Park Warehouse we carry over 130 recycled plastic products, from speed bumps, to benches, to picnic tables, to trash receptacles, to message boards, and more.

Just ONE of our recycled plastic benches saves 3,400 milk jugs from the landfill and just ONE of our six-foot picnic tables is equal to 6,300 milk jugs that would’ve ended up in a landfill.

When you recycle and purchase recycled goods, you are also investing in the future of this beautiful planet that we call home. Please consider that every single day – tell your friends to consider that too; together we can make recycling apart of our culture and we can all live in a better world for it. It is never too early or too late to care about the things that matter the most.

Mother Earth hosts all kinds of life within her atmosphere. The iron core is like a huge magnet that creates a force field that protects us from over exposure to radiation, while also trapping enough heat to keep the climate warm enough to sustain life. In addition to that amazing asset, Earth has an abundance of water that is necessary to every living thing on the planet. If you want some more proof that the planet we live on is magical, think of all the animals that help maintain a healthy ecosystem. Without our oceans, our animals, our ozone layer – life on earth will cease to exist. There is no planet in our solar system that has these features, no other planet we could ever call home.

Making sure that the earth will be in good condition and able to sustain life for generations to come is at the core of humanity. Most people would agree that they do not want to be the last generation to inhabit the Earth. But to ensure that our planet retains these wonderful features, humanity desperately needs to embrace sustainability in our everyday life. We have a responsibility for ourselves, our planet, and the future generations of all living creatures that call this wonderful world home.

Within the last 100 years greenhouse gases, and other air pollutants released into the atmosphere have caused BIG changes like global warming, ozone holes, and even acid rain. We are already seeing the effects of the mindset that says “your trash is gone once it leaves your curb”. It may be out of sight, but it should not be out of mind if you care for the other living organisms on the planet. Although this information might be difficult to process, the only way to eliminate the problem is to try and solve it
